Adult Group Fitness Classes

At the J. A. Walters Family YMCA, we have over 60 group fitness classes scheduled each week for our members to enjoy.  Our focus is to work the whole person, spirit, mind, and body.  Whether you like to workout in a spin class, aerobics class, or in the pool, we have something for you!

Class Descriptions

Y-Barre- Utilize a ballet bar and other equipment to tone the body with an emphasis on lower body and core.   (All Fitness Levels)

Pilates & Barre- A fusion of Mat Pilates and Ballet Barre designed to reshape, tone, and strengthen. (All Fitness Levels)

Boot Camp - The ultimate high intensity cardio workout. This challenging interval class, combines various callisthenic exercises with intense cardio for maximum fat and calorie burn. You can expect some days to have high/low intervals, and other days all out high intensity intervals, but bottom line, you will challenge your aerobic thresholds every time.(Advanced)  

Cardio Sculpt- Step, kick-box, and high/low impact cardio segments alternating with strength segments.   (Intermediate, Advanced)

Aqua Aerobics- Improve your balance, strength, and coordination and keep your heart healthy. These classes are held in the shallow end and are perfect for the new exerciser or those with limitations because of the low-intensity, low-impact nature.   (Beginner, Intermediate)

Yoga- Apotent alignment-oriented practice that emphasizes the forms and actions within postures. These classes are based on physical postures (asanas), deep breathing, mindfulness and listening to the body.    (All Fitness Levels including Pre/Post-natal, Active Older Adults)

Restorative Yoga  -A flowing dynamic style of yoga synchronizing movements with the breath. Aimed at integrating mind, body, and spirit. Perfect for those new to yoga. (All Fitness Levels)

Yoga-Christian Perspective–Flowing sequences of basic yoga postures with reflection on encouraging and inspiring verses, quotes, or poems. (All Fitness Levels)

Chair Yoga   -Move your whole body through a series of seated and standing yoga poses. Chair support is offered to safely perform a variety of postures. Increases flexibility, balance, and range of motion.  (All Fitness Levels including Pre/Post-natal, Active Older Adults)

Happy Yoga   -A practice of yoga that will tap into humor, joy, and celebration. The use of movement and breath to bring joy into your life, body, mind, and hopefully into your practice. (All fitness levels)

Sunrise Cycle/All Terrain Ride
- Vary your cardiovascular workouts aerobically and anaerobically by a virtual indoor bike ride with motivation coaching and music. The spin class schedule is posted outside the spin studio.   (All Fitness levels)

Cycle Express- A variable intensity class on stationary bikes. This exciting class utilizes motivating music paired with varied resistance and cadence drills. Great calorie burner in just 30 minutes! (All fitness levels)

Circuit Blast- Challenge yourself with an exciting 45-minute circuit workout alternating cardio and strength training.   (All Fitness Levels)

Base Fitness- A low impact cardio workout, as well as some light resistance training and flexibility.  Will include introduction to various equipment, balancing, core work, and flexibility. (All Fitness Levels including Active Older Adults)

Interval Step- A cardiovascular workout using an adjustable step, aerobic moves, and/or weights.   (Intermediate, Advanced)

Zumba- An exciting and unique workout incorporating Latin dance, Merengue, Salsa, Cha-Cha, Tango, Hip Hop, and Rock-N-Roll.  (All Fitness Levels)

ZumbaGold– Designed for the Active Older Adult, beginner, Post/Pre-natal participant, and other special populations that may need modifications for success.   (All Fitness Levels)

- 30-45 minutes of Zumba followed by 10-15 minutes of toning.    (All Fitness Levels)

Power Muscle– Get in, get it, and get out- build muscular strength and power in this high energy class utilizing the cardio barbell system.   (all fitness levels)

Kid’s Club Make ‘Em Move– A class provided through our Kid’s Club, this high energy and fast paced class includes sports, games, and aerobic activities to improve endurance and agility. A fun way to get kids moving!

Kid’s Club Zumbatonic
–A class provided through our Kid’s Club, kid-friendly routines based on original Zumba choreography with lots of energy and fun!

Tai Chi Helps to improve muscular strength, flexibility, and fitness. Additional benefits include improving relaxation, balance, posture, and immunity. Download handout below for more information.

Circuit Interval –A high and low intensity class utilizing a combo of cardio, strength, and conditioning moves. Formats may vary. (Intermediate, Advanced)
