Recycling is processing used materials into new products to prevent waste of potentially useful materials, reduce the consumption of fresh raw materials, reduce energy usage, reduce air pollution and water pollution by reducing the need for "conventional" waste disposal. Recycling is a key component of modern waste reduction and is the third component of the "Reduce, Reuse, Recycle" waste hierarchy.
These were some of the topics learned by the Kids' Time Afterschool kids while participating in a recycling contest during the month of April. Each program had to collect as many items as they could based on the recycling category they were assigned to.
The 2011 winner of the Recycling Contest was
Lula Kid's Time Afterschool Program. The kids at Lula Elementary collected a total so
1,294 plastic bottles, and yes every single one was counted. The kids filled up and entire trailer. The runners up were Friendship Kids' Time Afterschool and Martin Kids' Time Afterschool who tied for second place. World Language Kids' Time came in third place.
Thank you for your support and we hope that everybody will be able to participate in next years contest.
